Cummins C&G has opened a state-of-the-art engine rebuild centre in Nairobi, aimed at improving service and support for Cummins engines and power equipment throughout East Africa.

The facility, located along Lusaka Road, was officially inaugurated on Monday, August 25, 2025, with key figures including Cummins C&G Managing Director Erick Sangoro, Car & General (Kenya) Plc CEO Vijay Gidoomal, and Ignacio Gonzalez, Executive Director of Cummins Powergen Markets EMEIA, in attendance.

During the launch, Vijay Gidoomal highlighted how combining Cummins’ technical expertise with Car & General’s knowledge of the regional market has strengthened the brand.

He emphasised that the partnership helps the company maintain its goal of ensuring customer satisfaction in every town and community.

The centre features a modern dynamometer testing system, which allows generators to be connected to a load bank that replicates real-world conditions.

This system tests performance under varying loads, measuring factors such as power output, fuel consumption, cooling system efficiency, and emissions. Sangoro explained that this technology ensures equipment meets safety and reliability standards before being deployed.

Dyno testing helps identify issues like unstable voltage, overheating, or low fuel efficiency early, reducing the risk of failures in the field and giving customers confidence in their machines.

In addition to testing generators, the facility also focuses on engine rebuilding. Worn or damaged engines are restored to near-new condition, providing improved performance and a longer lifespan. The centre will also act as a technical training hub, offering customers hands-on experience in maintaining and operating their equipment.

Ignacio Gonzalez noted that the collaboration between Cummins and Car & General goes beyond simple business transactions, emphasising that the partnership is designed to keep customers satisfied and supported over the long term.

Car & General became the official distributor of Cummins products in Kenya in 2006. In 2017, the two companies formed a 50:50 joint venture, Cummins C&G.

In 2023, Car & General acquired Cummins’ stake, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. The company is a leading distributor of motorcycles, three-wheelers, tractors, forklifts, generators, and earthmoving equipment across East Africa. Through Cummins C&G, it represents the Cummins brand in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and the Seychelles.
