Airtel Money is preparing to enter the London Stock Exchange through a proposed initial public offering (IPO) that will give investors an opportunity to buy shares in the mobile financial services business.
The company, Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., announced on Wednesday that it intends to list its ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market, marking a new phase in its operations across Africa.
The proposed IPO will involve the sale of shares held by existing shareholders, meaning the company will not receive fresh capital from the transaction.
Airtel Money operates in 13 African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia and Malawi. It had approximately 53 million monthly active users as of June 30, 2026, reflecting its growing presence in the continent’s digital financial services market.
Ian Ferrao, Airtel Money’s chief executive officer, said the planned listing would support the company’s expansion and open a new chapter in its development.
“Today marks the start of a new chapter for Airtel Money as we announce our plans to list on the London Stock Exchange,” Ferrao said.
He added that the listing would support future growth, citing the increasing use of digital services and favourable demographic trends in the markets where the company operates.
Airtel Money reported that the total value of transactions processed through its platform reached $213 billion in the 12 months to June 2026.
The company said its revenue stood at $1.346 billion in the financial year ended March 2026, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) recorded a compound annual growth rate of 40 per cent between March 2018 and June 2026.
It also reported an EBITDA margin of about 50 per cent and a pre-tax cash conversion ratio exceeding 90 per cent in each of the past three financial years.
The company said it has no external borrowings, while capital expenditure accounted for three per cent of revenue in the year ended March 2026.
Beyond individual transfers, Airtel Money provides payment services to businesses and institutions, including governments, non-governmental organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises. Its enterprise platform serves more than 3,700 organisations.
As of June 2026, the company had more than 2.3 million agents and over 43,000 exclusive retail outlets across its markets.
Airtel Africa indirectly owns 77.85 per cent of Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., with other investors including Qatar Holding, TPG’s Rise Fund, Mastercard and Chimetech Holding.
Airtel Africa is expected to remain a long-term strategic shareholder following the proposed listing.
The IPO is subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions, including the publication of a final prospectus. The company has cautioned investors against making investment decisions based solely on the announcement.
