Former NTV news anchor Winnie Mukami is dead. Mukami died while receiving treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital after she contracted Covid-19. Mukami’s carrier as a journalist began when she joined KBC as a TV and current affairs radio presenter, where she worked for two years.
She became a household name in 2003 when she joined NTV and began anchoring news. After seven years of working at NTV, Mukami left to found her own public relations firm, Frontiers International Limited. “I enjoyed my time in the media and when my time was up, I embraced it and started thinking of a way forward. Now I am an established businesswoman who also thinks of how to give back to community even though getting here has not been an easy task,” she said at one point.
Mukami was appointed to the board of Kenya Pipeline Company for three years in 2018. She had taken a low profile since her dismissal from the Kenya Pipeline.

“My deepest condolences to friends and family of the late Winnie Mukami. May her soul rest in eternal peace. This pandemic is real and it is bad. Let’s all take care of each other and stay safe,” tweeted Lands Cabinet Secretary, Farida Karoney, a former journalist at Royal Media Services.
Mukami’s demise comes just two days after Royal Media Services lost Robin Njogu, who also succumbed to Covid-19 while being treated at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. His death came just days after the death of his mother.
Covid-19 has killed 2.67 million people, 1,925 of them in Kenya, which has recorded 115,000 cases since March last year.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe asked county governments to increase ICU beds as Kenya experiences the third wave of Covid-19. “We are going to emphasize home-based isolation and care because of how stretched hospitals are,” said CS Kagwe.
Kenya on Wednesday 17th March 2021 reported 1,279 new Covid-19 cases out of a sample size of 7,450, a positivity rate of 17.1 percent.
