Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was seen crying at the Anti Corruption Court in Milimani on Wednesday, February 3.
Sonko broke down as he explained to the court that he had fired his lawyers Cecil Miller and George Kithi. he now has a new team of lawyers who will represent him in his ongoing corruption case.
The new team consists of Alfred Nyamu, John Khaminwa and Assa Nyakundi.
The lawyers requested more time saying they needed to familiarize themselves with the case.
The state counsel rejected their 10 days request and urged the court to allow the legal team seven days.
The ex-governor was summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday to shed light on claims that Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and himself jointly participated in causing mayhem in 2017.

He was on Tuesday arraigned at Kiambu Law Courts to face violence charges after spending a night in police cells.
According to the charge sheet, the ex-governor committed the alleged offense in Buruburu, Nairobi in 2019.
“On May 25, 2019, at Buruburu Phase 4 in Kamukunji Sub County within Nairobi County with others not before the court, unlawfully led a group of men and assaulted Joel Kinja Muthui thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm,” the charge sheet read.
Sonko had planned to decline to record his statement because of an order that was last week issued by a court barring him from uttering any defamatory words against Kibicho in relation to land grabbing claims.
The governor had been summoned to appear at the DCI offices last Wednesday at 8 am but he requested to be allowed to appear on Monday because he had a court date.
Khaminwa wrote to DCI last Sunday saying his client would not be available Monday and requested to appear Wednesday even as he moved to court unsuccessfully. The Police insisted on him going there as per the earlier summons.
