1,000 Families to Receive Absa Goodies in New Initiative

Absa Bank Kenya in partnership with the Christian Mission Aid (CMA) has rolled out a new programme to support over 1,000 vulnerable families affected by Covid-19 with donations valued at Ksh2 million. 

The initiative, titled ‘Buckets of Blessings’ purchased foodstuffs including beans, cooking fat, maize meal, rice, wheat flour and salt. They are set to be distributed to households of up to five people in parts of Nairobi’s informal settlements and Kajiado County for a period of up to two weeks.

These selected areas include an estimated 400 families in Kariobangi and Korogocho slums and another 600 households in Magadi, Mosiro and Gataka areas.

Absa Bank Marketing & Corporate Relations Director, Caroline Ndung’u stated that the donation was aligned with the banks’ strategic priorities to become a force for good in the society.

The bank has channeled Ksh50 million towards several initiatives in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ms Ndungú further stated that supporting communities served a higher purpose and goes beyond philanthropy.

She asserted that Absa believed that their fortunes were directly intertwined with those of the communities they operate in and therefore as an organization, they have taken the responsibility to improve the lives of the people by putting in place initiatives that contribute to communities’ sustainable economic growth and resilience.

Christian Mission Aid is a cross-denominational, non-profit organization with a vision to create a holistic ministry, meeting the spiritual as well as physical needs of the people in East Africa.

The Chief Executive Officer, Debbie Kitchel, commended the initiative and called on more organizations to join in the fight against the adverse effects of the pandemic on families.

“We strongly believe in sustainable development where people are empowered to successfully overcome their challenges. We can make a difference if Governments, international donors and corporate sector act swiftly to meet the needs of affected communities” Kitchel added.
