The Engineers Board of Kenya has partnered with the National Bank of Kenya to launch a new-generation members’ identification card that also has payment capabilities.

The pre-paid VISA card, issued jointly with NBK, was launched at the Engineers Board of Kenya’s ongoing annual forum in Mombasa on Friday.

The card can be pre-loaded and used to make payments online and offline, anywhere in the world. It is intended to enforce updated membership guidelines by identifying genuine engineers.

EBK is the engineers’ professional regulatory body

The Chairman of the Engineers Board of Kenya, Erastus Mwongera, said that engineers now have to present the new card to potential clients as a way of weeding out quacks.

“This card is meant to champion enforcement of the code of conduct and ethics for engineers in an effort to uphold dignity, integrity and honour of the profession. It has the added advantage of inbuilt payment capability,” Eng. Mwongera added.

Addressing the forum, NBK Managing Director, Paul Russo said that the launch of the partnership paves way for growing the ecosystem by roping in merchants and service providers to offer discounts and offers to accredited engineers.

“We are excited to be part of this ground-breaking innovation. Our commitment is to deliver a smart card that does more to the engineers of this country. In addition to demonstrating accreditation, it will facilitate payments, as well as preferential offers and discounts suited to the engineers’ needs and lifestyle. This is our approach to deliver solutions that are attuned to customers’ unique needs,” Mr Russo added.

The new card will also be used for payment of subscriptions and other monies to EBK.
