In a statement, the communications behemoth disclosed that it would notify customers of the newly introduced rewards.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa had spoken of the company’s lofty ambitions as it looks to the future after a meteoric rise in the past two decades.

He revealed plans to transform the company into a “purpose-led technology company”, shifting away from being a communications and connectivity business.

Ndegwa revealed plans by Safaricom to venture into agriculture, health and education.

He explained that Safaricom planned on digitizing the sectors and fostering inclusion just as they digitized the financial sector with M-Pesa.

“We want to be a lifestyle driven brand, to empower business and to go beyond connectivity into health, agriculture and education.

“We want to build new digital ecosystems to empower farmers, policy holders and students as they learn,” Ndegwa noted.

He further discussed plans to venture into more African countries and to ‘democratize data’ by expanding access to 4G and fibre.
