Television Journalist Alex Chamwada has signed an agreement with Nation Media Group to use his content on NTV.

Under the partnership deal signed on 28th September, NTV will be airing Daring Abroad, a magazine programme produced by Chams Media as well as news content.

Daring move

The weekly programme is expected to launch on NTV today, 3rd October, six months after going off-air when Chamwada terminated his contract with KTN due to contractual disagreements.

“I humbly and sincerely thank the Nation TV for giving us the opportunity to partner with them as the broadcaster of Daring Abroad,” Mr Chamwada, the CEO of Chams Media, said after signing the partnership. “NTV, like other Nation Media Group platforms, is a strong brand in current affairs in Kenya and the region.”

Daring Abroad started five years ago – focusing on people who have ventured beyond the borders of their home countries in various fields – has curved itself space in the Kenya TV industry.

Mr Chamwada said it is “reloaded with two fresh segments”: Kenya to The World, which traces the value chain in Kenya’s products making it to the global market; and My Magical Kenya in which the presenter shares his experiential journeys in Kenya.

Mr Chamwada, a veteran broadcast journalist, recounted how the talks with NTV started at the peak of Covid-19 restrictions in March 2020, but defied the pandemic to end up with a deal.

“The journey towards this relationship ironically began at the most unexpected time,” he said. “While everything looked gloomy and vague, due to the Coronavirus crisis in March 2020, talks for this partnership began with both parties seeing the potential of this program with Covid-19 or not.”

Head of broadcast at NTV, Ms Monica Ndung’u, speaking during the signing, said the deal is a lot tapping the content Chams Media holds. “We look at Chams Media to help us tell stories that we may not necessarily be able to tell from their perspective,” Ms Ndung’u said. “Audiences will get to see what Kenyans are doing out there. He will be supplying us with materials of news value during his journey’s abroad.”

The show will be aired on Saturday at 7.30 PM beginning on October 3rd.

Just like under the KTN, Chams Media holds the copyright to rebroadcast the shows on his digital platforms. This weighs down Nation’s new quest to monetize digital content, including TV shows.

The fate of The Chamwada Report, a which gives an in-depth coverage of affairs, remains unknown.
