Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Thursday raided Governor Anne Waiguru’s homes in Nairobi and Kirinyaga looking for documents that could prove abuse of office allegations levelled against the county chief.

The detectives raided the two homes early, Thursday morning one month after the embattled Governor was reinstated by the Senate after being impeached by the Kirinyaga County Assembly over graft and abuse of office allegations.

The detectives ransacked the two homes for hours seeking any material evidence that could aid their investigation.

EACC Chief Executive Twalib Mbarak told journalists on Thursday that the agency is seeking to retrieve information that may be useful to prove claims that the Governor illegally influences awarding of tenders and procurement in her county.

The team of detectives who raided Waiguru’s home in Kagio Village in Kirinyaga County brandished a warrant on arrival granted by the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nyeri.

Kirinyaga MCAs while impeaching Waiguru also accused the governor of looting county coffers by accounting for non-exsistent foreign trips.

The MCAs claimed that Waiguru was paid travel allowances amounting to Ksh10.6 million yet she did not make any trips.

The Senate however cleared Waiguru of any wrongdoing citing unsubstantiated claims.

“The Committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Governments Act and standing order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the two Charges against the Governor have not been substantiated,” read the report by the Cleophas Malala committee formed to hear the case against Waiguru.
