TV47’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eugene Anangwe has announced his resignation from the young media station just months after joining the broadcaster.

In a post on twitter on Saturday, Anangwe announced his resignation which he attributed to “personal resasons” without giving much detail.

Before joining TV47, Anangwe was a news anchor at CNBC Africa where he worked between August 2018 and February 2019. Prior to that, he doubled up as a KTN News correspondent in Rwanda and a talkshow host for Rwanda TV.

Anangwe avers that he has done a commendable job at TV47 considering that he was the broadcaster’s first managing director tasked with building it from scratch.

“I took a chance with this baby. I call it my baby because I, we, gave it life. Setting up TV47 from scratch was definitely a new challenge and I am happy that I had all of you to help me in building the brand that TV47 is today. My plea to all of you is to never let this ship sink. Make it sail on for generations that will come after you so that they can also have a place to practice great journalism and tell the untold stories, ” he said.

“When I was given the task of working on project TV47, my vision and hope was to create a brand that will outlive me. A platform for mentorship and second chances for those that were told ‘No you can’t do it!’,”

“I, therefore, beseech you to carry the same vision in everything you do at TV47. Guard and protect the interests of the station jealously even as you protect your personal interests.”

TV47 is owned by Mount Kenya University (MKU) Founder Prof Simon Gicharu. The station went live in June 2019 after casting the net wide while recruiting.

By March this year, the broadcaster had conducted a second wave of recruitment, adding more experience and talent to its editorial team.

During the COVID-19 period, TV 47 like many other businesses has also been forced to make tough business decisions including letting go of some personnel in order to stay afloat which happended under Anangwe.
