Blow to Capital FM as Somoina Kimojino heads to Homeboyz Radio

Capital Group Acting Managing Director Somoina Kimojino has been appointed as the new General Manager of Nairobi-based urban radio station, Homeboyz Radio.

“Somoina is one of the most respected executives in the media industry in the region, and she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and networks in the radio and events business. We are excited about her joining the business to take Homeboyz Radio to leadership in Kenya and the region” said Myke Rabar, the company’s board chairman.

She will report to the Board and is tasked with doubling the listenership of Homeboyz Radio amongst Kenya’s millennials, drive the station’s events business, build brand partnerships and deliver significant profitability for the business,” Rabar added.

Ms Kimjino has worked in the radio and events business for the past 15 years in various positions, including Director of Programmes at Capital Radio and Head of TV at CNBC.

“I am excited to take Homeboyz Radio to the next level. I am focused on making it the leading truly integrated next generation radio, online and event business in Africa. We will deliver a new and exciting platform for our listeners and deliver information and entertainment that truly transforms their lives,” Ms Kimojino added.

She has been at the helm of Capital Group since May last year after replacing Cyrus Kamau.

During her tenure, Capital FM has seen several star staffers exit the latest being Editorial Director Michael Mumo and Special Projects Editor Rob Jillo.

Others were presenters Cess Mutungi, Maqbul Mohammed and Charles Kiarie. Business Editor Ken Macharia left in April as did business reporter and host Kennedy Kangethe.

Insiders say the media house if facing financial challenges forcing it to restructure operations, including slashing employees’ salaries.
