Jacque Maribe’s fiancé ‘Jowie’ denied bail again

Joseph Irungu alias Jowie bail application has been rejected by High Court in the case of Monica Kimani’s murder where he is the main suspect.

While delivering his ruling judge James Wakiaga said the application for bail is premature and lacks merit.

The judge further ordered for a pre-bail report and directed that all witnesses, placed under witness protection program, to testify first before the Court can consider the bail application.

This, however, is the second time his bail application is being rejected. In the previous application the High Court rejected the application on the grounds that he is a flight risk.

He countered the ruling on his new application citing that he is not a flight risk as his passport has been deposited in court. He also argued that he cannot interfere with the witnesses because they are under protection, only to be denied the bail the second time.

Jowie, the fiancé of Citizen journalist Jacque Maribe, has maintained his innocence in the murder of Ms Kimani at her Lamuria Gardens apartment on the night of September 19 last year.

The family of Ms Kimani has also opposed Jowie’s release.

His co-accused fiancée was last year released on Sh1 million bail.
