Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has been arrested over links to the politically motivated killings in Matungu, Kakamega County.

Speaking to the press, Regional commander Rashid Yakub confirmed that the former Cabinet Secretary was arrested in Kakamega Town on Friday moments after he left former Kakamega Senator’s Boni Khalwale’s home who announced his defection from FORD Kenya to Jubilee Party, the event was attended by Deputy President William Ruto.

This comes shortly after incumbent Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was also arrested in connection with the killings.

Echesa and Malala have been placed in police custody and are expected to shed light on the matter.

Police have launched a manhunt for other suspects one day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi warned that everyone involved in the planning of the attacks would be brought to book.

Echesa had taken a low profile after he was relieved off his duties in March.
