Kakamega quintuplets mother died of heart condition

The post mortem conducted on the body the Kakamega woman, Everline Namukhula, who gave birth to quintuplets has revealed that she suffered a fatal heart condition known as peripartum cardiomyopathy.

The condition, weakness of the heart muscle, is said to affect pregnant women who are in the final month of of pregnancy through about five month after delivery. The rare condition most commonly occurs right after delivery.

Ms Namukhula 28, who hit the headlines after giving birth to five babies died last Sunday a week after two of her babies demised while receiving specialized treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Uasin Gishu County.

The Referral Hospital pathologist Dr Benson Macharia reported that the autopsy revealed there was fluid in Namukhula’s chest, heart, lungs and abdominal cavity signs that are lead to the fatal heart condition.

“After viewing her medical history to know the cause of death, we ruled out blood clot, but we found that her heart was mildly enlarged and after more investigation we discovered that peripartum cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that is common among pregnant women in the final trimester was the cause of her death,” said Dr Macharia.

He added that samples from the deceased have been taken for further investigation and the results will be out in two weeks.

Her three remaining girls are still in the hospital where they are receiving specialized treatment.

The humble family of Ms Namukhula which has been hit by one too many deaths has appealed for help in burying their daughter and her babies.

Ms Namukhula has been survived by a husband and seven children.
