Former President Daniel arap Moi on Friday went for a check-up at Nairobi Hospital. He was later taken back to his home at Kabarnet Gardens. It was not immediately clear whether the retired President was ill or it was just a routine check-up.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni had earlier visited Moi during the last day of his official visit to the country.
Moi, 94, has maintained a low profile since he left office in 2002, after ruling Kenya for 24 years since the death of Kenya’s founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.
Moi’s last public appearance was on October 26, 2017, when he cast his vote at the Kabarak University polling station during the repeat presidential election. The former head of State voted from his car with a polling clerk assisting him cast his ballot, an indication of his frail health.
His health has occasionally caused scare, which saw him flown to Tel Aviv, Israel for a knee operation in March 2018. On January 27, 2017 the former president underwent a minor surgery on his knee at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
