President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday pledged to take the war on corruption to the doors of his closest political allies and relatives if they are deemed to be corrupt by investigative agencies.

In a post on his social media handles on Friday, Uhuru promised to fight the big fish days after Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti also vowed to send the well-connected but irredeemably corrupt individuals to Kamiti Maximum Prison.

“If you are corrupt, we will fight you. You can be my brother or my sister or my closest political ally but if you are corrupt we will fight you. I will not be clouded by ethnicity or status in my quest to leave behind a united nation and I will continue championing for Kenya’s unity,” reads the tweet.

Coincidentally, moments after posting the tweet, Uhuru’s twitter account went down. Even his official Facebook account also cannot be found.

President Kenyatta has been vocal in rallying the public behind the war against corruption spearheaded by DCI Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

Deputy President William Ruto has clashed with Kinoti and Haji over investigations into the loss of Ksh21 billion meant for the construction of Arror and Kimwaror multi-purpose dams in Elgeyo Marakwet County dismissing the investigations as a ‘with hunt’.

Ruto has also explicitly differed with Kinoti over the amount lost in the scam. The Deputy President claims that ‘only’ Ksh7 billion is what is being contested but Kinoti has so far maintained that the amount lost is Ksh21 billion.

That has put Ruto at cross purposes with the President’s declaration that he intends to make the war on graft part of his legacy.

The war on graft has seen several high profile individuals including former Youth Principal Secretary Lilian Omolo and former Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus charged with presiding over loss of public funds in court.
