Kipkoech Tanui has been appointed Deputy Editorial Director of the Standard Group. Mr Tanui, who has been the group managing editor, will double as managing editor for the daily editions.
He will be second in command after Mr Joseph Odindo, the former Nation Media Group editorial chief, who was appointed editorial director early November. “To strengthen the overall leadership of the Group and as part of Editorial succession planning, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kipkoech Tanui as the Deputy Editorial Director,” said Standard Group CEO Sam Shollei in a memo issued to staff today.
Mr Shollei said Tanui will support Mr Odindo to ensure that the Group’s editorial functions are strengthened across the platforms of radio, TV, newspaper and digital.

Alfric Kipkoech Tanui, a veteran in the media industry, has served the group in various editorial leadership positions since joining the group in 2001,including as managing editor weekend editions, Daily edition, The Counties, with the latest position being that of Group Managing Editor for the standard titles.
Mr Tanui, who moved from Nation to Standard just over a dozen years ago, is a prolific opinion writer and well known for his weekly column in the Friday Standard.
“I am confident that The Group’s editorial team, known for its competitive journalism and diligence, will be even much stronger under Mr Odindo leadership and support from Mr. Tanui,” said Mr Shollei. “I urge the team to fully provide cooperation to the leadership so that we can assure ourselves of world-class editorial content.”
