One week after announcing merger talks with Airtel, Telkom Kenya has revised the prices of its flagship data bundle dubbed ‘Mzito’ as the two companies finalise talks to set up the new company which will be known as Airtel-Telkom.

Telkom is dangling free night data to woo avid callers at a time when Safaricom and Airtel have also revised their data charges to cope with stiff competition.

According to Telkom’s MD for the Mobile Division, Amer Atwi, the move has been necessitated by a marked growth in mobile data consumption, largely by millennials.

“The new combo bundle is built with the data and experience needs of our customers in mind. We have tailored our offer to suit their dynamic needs,” said Mr Atwi in a statement to newsrooms.

Telkom’s 7GB bundle will now retail at Ksh999 and comes with 300 minutes to all networks and free night data while the 3GB bundle will be going for Ksh499 and will be valid for 7 days.

Conversely, the revision also comes shortly after Telkom announced its Ksh1 billion investment into the expansion, densification and optimization of its 4G and 3G networks.

Subscribers will be allowed to buy another bundle before the existing bundle expires, which will see a cumulative increase to their data and minutes.

This is in addition to the free data which still remains available for night use.
