The African Union (AU) has condemned the attack on Kenya soil in the strongest possible terms.

AU chairperson, Fake Mahamat expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured during the attack.

“This is a cowardly attack, once again, underlines the imperative for renewed and reinvigorated efforts to combat terrorism throughout the continent. I commend the swift response by the security forces of Kenya and I express the solidarity of the AU with the government and the people of Kenya,” said Mr Mahamat in his statement.

The AU restated its commitment to continue working with its Member States and partners in the fight against terrorism throughout the African continent.

“We will pursue our efforts to stabilize the situation in Somalia and the fight against Al-Shabaab through our Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Al-Shabaab is reportedly controlling the large parts of southern and central Somalia.

The security forces are in control of the 14 Riverside Drive Complex as 174 more people were rescued overnight from the building that came under terror attack from Al Shabaab Militia group on Tuesday afternoon.

By six o’cock on Wednesday morning, the security forces said that they had cornered the gunmen on the seventh floor of the complex shortly after a loud bang and heavy gunfire were heard inside Grosvenor Hotel in Dust office complex.

Those rescued were reunited with their families as the injured were rushed to the hospital. The president is expected to address the nation on the terrorist attack.
