Java House Group on Wednesday opened a new branch in Parklands, Nairobi.

The branch is the 62nd in East Africa and it’s opening is in line with Java’s robust expansion plan.

Speaking after the branch was launched, Java House CEO Paul Smith said that the Java House Engen will serve the upmarket Parklands population and is a manifestation of the coffee masters’ desire to expand its regional and international footprint.

“The opening of this particular branch is significant to us as it serves the diverse Parklands community. With every branch opening, Java house contributes to economic sustenance by the creation of jobs and most importantly serving the community authentic delicacies,” said Mr Smith.

This comes after the coffee chain opened the Java House Express Branch at The Nairobi Hospital Doctor’s Plaza on November 17 and another one in Lavington on November 7.

Java House has pumped in more than Ksh1 billion in its East Africa expansion plans.

In January 2019, Java will be opening its 2nd branch in Rwanda after opening its first 360 Degrees Pizza in Rwanda outlet over the past week.

In May of this year, Java House told Reuters it plans to expand beyond East Africa with plans to open 25 new restaurants in Uganda and a dozen in Rwanda over the next five years. Mr. Smith also said the coffee chain is looking at options that could see it enter Nigeria and South Africa.

Abraaj’s East Africa managing director Ashish Patel told Reuters at the time, “For us Java House is not an East African story. It is an international story. I’m pretty certain we’ll get there in the next couple of years.”

However it’s not been all rosy for the group, in August one of its branches in Kileleshwa was demolished by The National Environment Management Agency (NEMA).

The environment watchdog claimed that the branch was sitting on riparian land and had eaten into road reserve.
