Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has gotten temporary reprieve after the High Court in Nairobi barred the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Comission (EACC) from searching his properties in an attempt to find clues to what they are accusing him of, illegally acquiring Ksh213 million of public funds.

High Court Judge Hedwig Ong’undi gave the orders on November 1 pending a ruling on the matter.

“The respondents (EACC) are to cease further searching the petitioner’s properties pending the ruling on November 6,” ruled the judge.

Kidero moved to court on September 26 where he sued EACC and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) over what he described as harassment and intimidation.

“EACC has resorted to intimidating my family members with raids and searches which are uncalled for. EACC’s tactics are meant to intimidate my family members and make friends and family alienate me which is in violation of my rights,” said Kidero in documents filed at the court.

The former governor is being investigated for illegally acquiring Ksh213 million during his stints as CEO of Mumias Sugar Company and Nairobi Governor.

Kidero has however pleaded his innocence saying he has legally acquired his wealth over the years since 1983.
