Like a jilted husband, the Standard Group appears to have thrown caution to the wind to hit back at former KTN anchor Betty Kyalo by revealing intimate details of her love affair with flamboyant Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
This week’s edition of The Nairobian, the weekly tabloid publication published by the media house, details hitherto unknown details of how the now-ended romantic relationship evolved and why it came to a halting end.
And revealing what is already public, the newspaper reveals how Joho, popularly known as Governor 001, was so smitten with the TV screen siren that he bought her a house along Lenana Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, a BMW X6 and a Porsche Cayenne, in addition to a monthly upkeep stipend.
“The house though was not in Betty’s name,” the Nairobian quotes a source it says is close to the two former lovebirds as saying adding “he even opened a business that deal’s in leather products for Betty’s sister, but Betty wanted more.”
But it adds the anchor, who was initially married to NTV editor and anchor Dennis Okari but went separate ways after six months, wanted more – being the First Lady of Mombasa.
“Betty even toned down her dressing on television to look wifely, but the pressure was too much for Joho who stopped talking to her. Later, he sent his security to repossess the two vehicles and the keys to his house in Kilimani,” The Nairobian source divulged.
With Joho having taken back his house keys, Betty was left ‘homeless.’ To make matters worse, she had left Okari without carrying even a rusty spoon from their matrimonial home.
The source told The Nairobian that Betty had left like one going for shopping, only to hook up with Governor Joho.
“Joho took his house and the BMW. The Porsche Cayenne was repossessed from Betty when she was behind the wheels on Mombasa Road,” continued our source.
“She was forced to park off the road near Nyayo Stadium and pick her stuff before Joho’s security detail seized it.” Betty begged Joho to allow her to take the furniture and other personal effects, which he did, explained the source “and even gave her send-off money to start her new life.
It did not take long before Betty filed a case at the Milimani Children’s Court seeking child support from her ex-husband Dennis Okari.”
The paper further alleges that Betty ended up in a liason with banker Tito Kuyoh who gave her his black Range Rover which she used to parade on social media. But they broke up over allegations of several admirers and “the guy was really heartbroken.”
Contacted by The Nairobian, Tito denied the allegations stating that, “I have never dated Betty. She is like a sister to me and there is nothing beyond that.” The paper says Betty did not answer its calls and neither did Joho’s communication team.
Media watchers were taken by surprise with the decision to publish the story weeks after Betty left KTN, also owned by Standard Group, to join K24 where she will shortly be unveiled when the Mediamax-owned station relaunches.
Recently, the newspaper ran a story on the love affair between veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli and KTN anchor Mary Kilobi but after talking to both parties as well as her father.
In a previous interview with True Love, Betty had said she left Joho partly due to religious differences.
“We had a culture clash and a religious clash. I also wanted to be a strong woman; I wanted to make something for myself and my daughter. I wanted to start a business because I am young and energetic. But he wanted someone who was chilled; there was a conversation of me quitting my career and just staying at home. We did not see eye to eye on this,” she said.
The Nairobian story rubbishes this narrative.
