Former K24 lifestyle and entertainment anchor Sharon Machira has rejoined the BBC and she announced the news in style by posting a video of herself dancing in the studio to the excitement of her fans.

Ms Machira, who resigned from the Mediamax Network-owned station last year, has been running her own YouTube channel, Sharon Machira || Vlog #1 where she has been sharing her experiences within the media, lifestyle and entertainment industry in Kenya before joining HomeBoyz Radio as a Weekend Breakfast Show host early this year.

Initially, she worked as co-founder and creative director at Backdrop Agency. She’s among the growing number of Kenyan journalists who have recently joined BBC as it increases its presence in Kenya and the region. The media giant has established a modern studio in Nairobi which targets to accommodate 300 journalists.

Machira, who describes herself as a millennial and extrovert, has previously held various reporting roles at SkyNews, BBC and Vice News. She has vast networks within the local and international media industry and holds a Masters Degree in Television Journalism from City University in London.

She recently generated controversy after she took to social media to criticise Capital Group after she failed to land a job as the host of  Hits Not Homework following the departure of Amina Abdi who joined NTV.

Capital FM settled for Anne Mwaura, Tracy Wanjiru and Anita Nderu as the new hosts but Machira insisted she was more qualified.

That could perhaps explain why she is excited with joining BBC, which is massively recruiting locally and across the continent after establishing a Ksh 1 billion Africa bureau in Riverside, Nairobi.
