Tobiko orders David Ndii release

The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has directed that NASA advisor David Ndii be released on bail.

Tobiko further directed that once investigations are completed, the resultant inquiry file should be forwarded to his office for appropriate directions.

“DPP Keriako Tobiko has directed @DCI_Kenya that David Ndii be released on police bond. Further, DPP has directed that once investigations are completed, the resultant inquiry file be forwarded to @ODPP_KE for appropriate directions,” the DPP’s office tweeted.

Tobiko intervened as police were preparing to charge the prominent economist with charges under the incitement to violence count.

Ndii’s dramatic arrest from a Kwale hotel where he had boarded with his wife had generated sharp reactions from Kenyans online and offline with NASA leader Raila Odinga saying it was meant to intimidate the Opposition.

“David Ndii was collected like a dog by the police. His wife was told that he was being taken to Diani Police Station,” said Raila, who was speaking in Kisumu after paying a courtesy call on Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o.

“The people of Kenya will not stop until they finally get the electoral justice to ensure that each and every ballot cast by voters counts,” added Raila, who said he expected more of this supporters to be arrested ahead of his planned swearing-in by a People’s Assembly on December 12.

Raila told a crowd of supporters that his daughter Winnie and Ndii’s wife Mwende were briefly held at Diani Police Station but were released after protesting.
