IEBC allows eight to vie for presidency

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has resolved to go ahead with the fresh presidential election on October 26 as earlier scheduled with eight candidates on the ballot.

The move follows Wednesday’s High Court ruling by Justice John Mativo, which ordered the Commission to include Thirdway Alliance candidate Ekuru Aukot to be on the ballot.

The Commission has, however, decided to include all the candidates who vied on August 8 to run in the fresh poll.

IEBC also says NASA candidate Raila Odinga has not submitted Form 24A to formally withdraw from the contest. NASA had sought to have a fresh election held within 90 days accusing IEBC of failing to implement changes that would ensure a credible, free and fair election.
