Inoorero puts a smile to needy students’ faces Eleven students will be able to further their university education, thanks to Inoorero University’s scholarship programme.

Drawn from various counties across the country, the students who are financially needy but academically brilliant, were awarded with the scholarships yesterday, during an event graced by the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof Henry Thairu, at the university grounds in Nairobi.

“We are greatly delighted to be awarding these scholarships which give a second chance to bright students who would not otherwise afford education critical to their future success. As a university keen on developing entrepreneurship and making a real contribution to economic growth through academics, supporting such brilliant minds is at the centre of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” said Prof Thairu.

The university has been awarding scholarships annually, and it drew this year’s beneficiaries from Homabay, Kiambu, Webuye, Meru, Narok , Nyandarua and Kakamega Counties. The university has set aside a Kshs14 million kitty that goes to the scholarship programme annually and upon application and selection by the scholarship committee, students are able to benefit from the programme.

 This year’s scholarship is worth 4.6 million. Eligible applicants must be ongoing students at Inoorero University, as well as those aspiring to join the university. Besides, the scholarship seekers should be between 18 and 26 years of age, who should also demonstrate qualities of leadership and responsibility. “Close to the University’s heart are our core values which include service to humanity.

Inoorero University participates actively in community service and giving back to society. Today is a special occasion during which the University rewards excellence and assists the needy in the society by awarding scholarships for our various programmes, as part of our CSR,” added Mr Thairu.

Since its inception in May 2003, the Scholarship Scheme has awarded 96 scholarships to needy students, enriching their lives by offering them an opportunity to pursue higher education and empowering them to actualize their potential. This move was been seen as a way of easing the burden on poor families in pursuit of higher education.
