Centum in C-Suite Change as Thomas Omondi-Achola takes over from Dr James Mworia

Centum Investment Company Chief Executive Officer Dr James Mworia resigned from the firm to become the head of freshly minted Kenya National Infrastructure Fund, w.e.f 7th September 2026. According to the Centum Board, Dr Mworia has been replaced in an acting capacity by Thomas Omondi-Achola.

Omondi, a seasoned Mathematician Manager, is currently the  Group’s Chief Operating Officer and Partner for Portfolio Overseas Operations in Centum Capital Partners. This appointment follows the script of Centum’s corporate succession plan. Omondi brings over 25 years of senior executive leadership and strategic transformation experience to Centum.

As  Group COO and Partner for Portfolio operations since 2018, Omondi has overseen strategic development, turnarounds, value creation and capital exists across more than 15 investee companies.

Prior to joining the listed firm, Omondi spent over 13 years at Kenya Airways in key executive positions, including Chief Transformation Officer, Director of Strategy& Performance Management, Acting Chief Commercial Officer, General Manager of Jambojet, Head of Operations Control, Head of HR Business Partners and Head of IT Development.

He holds a BSc in Mathematics and an MBA in Finance from the University of Nairobi, an MBA in General Management from IESE Business School(Spain). He has attended several executive development programs including programs at the University of London, University of Pretoria, Rolls Royce and General Electric. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor(CISA) and a RIKA Fellow.

Centum growth under Dr Mworia

Dr Mworia leaves the listed investment firm after nearly 18 years of distinguished leadership, during which he led the transformation of Centum from a local investment firm into East Africa’s premier diversified investment platform.

Under Dr Mworia, Centum balance sheet grew tenfold from KSh 4 billion and operating on a KSh 200 million bank overdraft in December 2008 to total assets of KSh 46 billion today.

He helped reposition  the investment firm’s strategic holdings in Vipingo Special Economic Zones(EPZ), Pearl Marina and TRIFIC SEZ without requiring additional equity. He has delivered close to KSh 5.8 billion in cumulative and approved dividends to Centum shareholders.

Dr Mworia has been instrumental in the recent exit  of the investment firm from Sidian Bank, the historic oversubscription of the TRIFIC –I-REIT, the divestiture from Nabo Capital and the recent special dividend reward to Centum shareholders.

Omondi served as Chief Transformation Officer for Sidian Bank, driving the lender’s turnaround to a KSh US$ 4 million profit position within 18 months. He currently serves on several boards, including Longhorn Publishers Plc, Nabo Capital, Jafar Credit, Tribus Solutions Group, Tier Data and Green blade growers.
