The fourth edition of the What Women Want Summit successfully concluded on Sunday, March 29, following a three-day summit filled with impactful dialogue, inspiration, networking, and connection-building, reaffirming its position as one of East Africa’s leading platforms for advancing women’s leadership and empowerment.

The summit, organised by PinkE Media in partnership with the #SheWalks platform by Johnnie Walker, brought together influential voices from across the region and diverse sectors under the theme “Bold, Visionary, Capable, and Unstoppable.” The event convened trailblazers, thought leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and creatives who addressed critical issues, including navigating leadership spaces, scaling businesses in a digital-first economy, and fostering inclusive growth, underscoring the importance of equipping women with the tools, networks, and confidence to thrive in evolving socio-economic landscapes.

“Not every message that sounds good is good for you. Not every movement that gains momentum is aligned with the truth,” Pinky Ghelani, Founder of What Women Want, said. “That is why spaces like this matter, as we question and challenge ideas rather than just consume them.”

The summit was officially opened at a gala dinner presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, setting a powerful tone for the conversations. The summit concluded with closing remarks from Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani, who emphasized the importance of adhering to the Kenyan Constitution and attaining the two-thirds gender rule to further drive women’s empowerment in the country.

The world’s leading Scotch whisky, Johnnie Walker, through its #SheWalks platform, played a key role in supporting the summit’s mission. Speaking on the opening day, Maureen Osoro, Marketing Manager, Spirits at East African Breweries Limited (EABL), delivered remarks reinforcing the brand’s commitment to championing women’s progress.

“At EABL, we are intentional about creating spaces that bring women together to share, learn, and grow,” Ms Osoro said. “Through the #SheWalks platform, Johnnie Walker remains committed to supporting initiatives that amplify women’s voices and create meaningful opportunities for progress. The conversations here are not just inspiring; they are catalytic.”

On the final day of the summit, Yvonne Mwangi, Commerce Director at EABL, added: “As leaders, our role goes beyond personal achievement; it is about opening doors, shifting perspectives, and enabling pathways for more women to step forward,” said Ms Mwangi.

Pinky further highlighted the continued growth and relevance of the platform: “Each year, we are intentional about deepening the conversations and expanding the impact. This is why we will continue to collect and act on your feedback as we prepare for an even bigger and better fifth edition.

“This year’s edition not only expanded in the number of speakers and panels but also deepened the quality of conversations, once again delivering a safe space and a holistic experience that combined thought leadership with curated lifestyle engagements, fostering both professional and personal growth.
