The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has come out to refute claims by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna that armed goons were present at Kisumu International Airport on Saturday, February 21.

In an official statement, KAA described the reports circulating on social media as misleading, insisting that airport operations were never disrupted and that security protocols were strictly enforced.

“Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has observed reports circulating on social media alleging the presence of unauthorised individuals and security lapses at Kisumu International Airport (KIA) on Saturday, 21st February 2026. KAA wishes to clarify that at no time were unauthorised individuals, groups, or organised unlawful elements present within the airport premises,” the statement read.

The authority added that access control measures remained fully operational, and both the Airport Security Committee and the Border Management Committee, in collaboration with state security agencies, maintained complete oversight throughout the period.

“Airport operations remained normal, secure, and uninterrupted. There was no security breach, disturbance, or compromise to passenger safety, aircraft operations, or airport infrastructure,” KAA emphasised.

The statement also noted that viral images of the incident were taken outside the airport perimeter, beyond the authority’s security jurisdiction.

The clarification follows allegations by Sifuna that his team faced threats at the airport while preparing to attend the Linda Mwananchi tour rally in Kakamega County. According to the senator, armed goons had barricaded parts of the airport, forcing his group to alter their travel plans.

Sifuna expressed concerns over passenger safety and questioned how unauthorised individuals could have gained access. He also suggested that flight details from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport may have been shared, potentially compromising security.
