Kenya Airways (KQ) has won three awards at The Aviation Challenge 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year the airline has been recognised for its sustainable operations.

The awards include Most Impactful Solution – Catering, Game Changer of the Year, and Special Recognition for Collaboration with KLM.

The recognition reflects initiatives implemented across all Kenya Airways flights, including recyclable aluminium food packaging, bamboo cutlery, paper cups, and canned drinks instead of plastic bottles.

According to the airline, these measures have helped avoid more than 337 tonnes of single-use plastic annually and saved over Ksh 50 million each year.

George Kamal, Acting Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways, said the awards show the airline’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its operations.

“This recognition shows our commitment to expanding sustainable practices through innovation and focused action. It reflects the hard work of our people and partners as we continue to embed sustainability into our operations and create real change across the industry,” he said.

Kenya Airways also received special recognition for its ongoing collaboration with KLM. Over four editions of The Aviation Challenge, the two airlines have shared ideas and developed solutions to accelerate sustainable practices across their networks.

Jambojet, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, was also recognised, winning the Most Compelling Story award for its communication of sustainability efforts and their impact.

The awards were presented at a global aviation sustainability event in Copenhagen, Denmark, which brought together airlines to share practical solutions for greener operations.
