Govt Expands Mau Summit Police Station Ahead of Major Nairobi–Mau Summit Road Upgrade

The government has heightened security preparations along the Nairobi–Mau Summit corridor as construction of the 175-kilometre dual carriageway gets underway, Interior Principal Secretary Dr.Raymond Omollo has announced.

The road project, recently launched by President William Ruto, is expected to turn the route into one of the country’s busiest transport and commercial arteries, with increased traffic flow, faster mobility and rapid business growth projected along the corridor.

To match the anticipated transformation, PS Omollo said the state is deliberately reinforcing local security infrastructure to support safe transport and economic activity.

At the centre of this effort is the newly expanded and modernised Mau Summit Police Station, which he said is now nearing completion. “Construction of the main block is complete and final interior finishes and fittings are underway,” noted Omollo.

The upgraded facility will feature increased operational space, better-equipped offices, improved holding and reporting areas, and a layout designed for quicker response to incidents along the highway and within the fast-growing Mau Summit township.

Omollo said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective of ensuring that infrastructure investments are matched with reliable security systems. “Alongside other national developments, the government is investing in security infrastructure to create a predictable and safe operating environment that allows transport, trade and local enterprise to flourish,” he said.

The Mau Summit dualing is part of Kenya’s larger plan to modernise major transit routes and reduce congestion, with the corridor linking Nairobi to the Rift Valley and western Kenya—one of the country’s most vital economic lifelines.
