President William Ruto has received a special award for his contribution to football development in Kenya during the CAF Awards 2025 ceremony held in Morocco.

The award, presented by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), recognises the head of state’s growing commitment to strengthening sports structures and investing in football pathways across the country. Kenyan Ambassador to Morocco, Joseph Gakinya, received the award on behalf of the President.

“Our Head of State H.E Dr. @WilliamsRuto received a special award for his support towards football development in Kenya at the #CAFAwards2025. Kenyan Ambassador to Morocco, @jgakinya received the award on behalf of the President,” Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed said.

He added that the government’s current investment in sports infrastructure, talent pathways, and federation reforms is laying the groundwork for Kenya’s rise in continental football.

“With the elaborate support structure the government is putting in place for sports and particularly football, I have no doubt our players shall soon be recipients of these coveted accolades as well,” the FKF President noted.

The recognition comes at a time when Kenya is intensifying efforts to revive its football fortunes, including improving stadiums, supporting youth development programs, and preparing national teams for upcoming regional and international competitions.
