A nine-member team from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) Emergency Response Team (ERT) left for Jordan today to take part in the 14th Annual Warrior Competition 2025, a prestigious international event showcasing the world’s top law enforcement agencies and special forces units.

The competition, which will take place from October 5-9, will see 38 teams from 23 countries compete in tough tactical and mission-based challenges designed to test individual skills and teamwork under pressure.

The event will feature a series of challenging yet realistic scenarios, including urban combat simulations, marksmanship contests and strategic medical rescue tasks, and competitors will be judged on speed, accuracy, and adaptability, with an emphasis on real-world applicability.

The DCI team, one of only two African contingents selected alongside Rwanda, earned their place after a standout performance at the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) SWAT Challenge in Rwanda in January 2025.

On Tuesday, September 30, DCI Deputy Director John Onyango presided over their send-off ceremony, expressing pride in their achievements and urging them to aim for the top prize.

For the DCI team, he said, the event offers an opportunity to showcase their capabilities on the global stage and to further cement Kenya’s standing among the world’s elite security forces.

The flagging-off ceremony was graced by senior officials, among them Nicholas Kimathi, Officer Commanding the ATPU Nairobi Region, and Chief Inspector Alvince Osura, ERT Commander.
