The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will mark its 20th anniversary with a three-day festival in Mombasa from October 10 to 12, 2025, celebrating what it describes as two decades of resilience, sacrifice and a steadfast commitment to democracy in Kenya.

In a statement issued on September 10, 2025, the party invited members, supporters and all Kenyans to join the festivities.

“The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) marks two decades of resilience, sacrifice, and unyielding commitment to democracy, justice, and the people of Kenya. As the Party that has stood at the forefront of defending constitutionalism and people’s rights, we take pride in inviting our members, supporters, and all Kenyans to our 20th anniversary celebrations,” the statement read in part.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the milestone was both a celebration and a moment of reflection.

“The celebrations will run from October 10th to 12th, 2025, in the historic city of Mombasa. This milestone is not only a commemoration of ODM’s journey but also a reflection on the struggles, victories, and lessons that continue to shape our vision for a just, united, and prosperous Kenya,” he stated.

The Mombasa program will feature a Youth Summit bringing together emerging leaders and visionaries, a Women’s Convention recognising the role of women in Kenya’s democratic struggles, a vibrant Youth Concert showcasing talent and creativity, and a four-team football tournament featuring AFC Leopards, Bandari FC, Gor Mahia and Shabana FC.

The Raila Odinga-led party has also planned build-up activities across the country with major highlights in Migori and Wajir counties, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity and grassroots participation.

ODM at 20

ODM traces its origins to the 2005 constitutional referendum, where the “orange” side opposed the proposed draft constitution and emerged victorious, giving birth to the movement that later transformed into a political party.

It rose to prominence in the 2007 general election, played a significant role in the 2010 constitutional reforms and has since been part of key alliances such as CORD, NASA and Azimio la Umoja.

Throughout, ODM has consistently positioned itself as a defender of constitutionalism, democracy and social justice.

As the party enters its third decade, it is expected to use the anniversary period to not only celebrate its past but also to chart its future, with its National Delegates Convention scheduled for October 2025 anticipated to review leadership, refine policies and set the stage for the 2027 elections.
