Kenyans will go to the ballot on August 8 to vote for the President, Governors, Senators, Women Representatives, Members of Parliament and Members of the county Assembly (MCAs).

An individual should be well conversant with the voting procedure and rules to avoid spoiling a vote or being arrested for misconduct. For instance, one should avoid carrying weapons to the polling station and causing unnecessary disturbance.

A smart Kenyan should know the procedure of voting in Kenya. According to the IEBC, this is the process of voting in Kenyan General Election:

  1. You will have to get to a polling station near you. The one you registered as a voter from.
  2. After entering the polling room, the first step is to be identified as a voter; the voting clerk will identify you on the system.
  3. You will move to the next clerk who will issue you with six stamped ballot papers and direct you to a booth where you will select your preferred candidates.
  4. In the booth, you will be alone and you will mark the ballot papers (Usually you use one style of marking either a tick or cross against your preferred candidate. Don’t use both.
  5. After marking the ballot papers, you will proceed to cast your vote in ballot boxes, there will be six boxes on the table and you will cast one ballot paper in each box.
  6. Just to make sure you don’t come back to vote again, near the exit there will be a clerk who will mark your left small finger with indelible ink.
  7. You are done and you can go home and watch the proceedings on TV and await the final results as voters are not allowed to remain in the polling stations after voting.
