Veteran radio presenter Edward Kwach has died, throwing the media fraternity into morning once again. Kwach, who was a talkshow host on Urban Radio Kisumu, died last evening while undergoing treatment in Nairobi, according to a family statement.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey (Edward Carey Kwach), that occurred last night 28th April 2025 while receiving treatment for meningitis,” the family said in statement released last night.

Kwach, a constant feature on radio over the past two decades or so, touched the lives of many through his voice and presence on the airwaves, “becoming a trusted and familiar companion to listeners across the country.”

He will be remembered not only for his warmth and humour but also for his exceptional taste in music, which brought joy and comfort to so many. His passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him personally and the many more who connected with him through his work.

He will be remembered not only for his warmth and humour but also for his exceptional taste in music, which brought joy and comfort to so many. “His passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him personally and the many more who connected with him through his work,” the family said.

Kwach was admitted to Coptic Hospital in Nairobi, early April, where he has been receiving treatment. The news about his illness was broken by fellow media personality, Caroline Mutoko, on behalf of Kwach’s family, indicating that the experienced broadcaster required blood donation to increase his critically low iron and haemoglobin levels.

Kwach is well known for his strong radio presence and unique voice, which formerly graced the Easy FM Drive Show, Kiss FM before he moved ending up at Spice FM and lately at Urban Radio Kisumu.

In January, reflecting on his career and responding to a radio listener who needed advice on a career in radio, Kwach wrote thus:

“The words celebrity and fame will continue to hound you. It will be very difficult to comprehend fame and celebrity. There will be a point where you will be the number one, you will have the number one show on radio and on TV. You will be the number one EMCEE and the most sort after voice Some days you will embrace it and on others, you will shun it. Fame will bring stubbornness, entitlement. It will see you languish in many police cells because of your history with the police, you will imagine they are picking on you. But you will also get a lot of commercial work”

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support during his illness, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who donated blood, visited, and kept him in their thoughts and prayers,” the family said. “We kindly ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
