Kenya’s President William Ruto says he is closely watching 34 heads of government institutions for failing to move their payments to a digital platform run by the central government to enhance transparency.
Speaking at the first anniversary of e-Citizen Directorate in Nairobi, the president said the CEOs must comply with the directive or face unspecified action, which could include sanctions or even dismissal.
President Ruto launched the e-Citizen platform a year after assuming the presidency to enhance efficiency in managing government funds. “These (see list below) entities have yet to comply with my directive that their services, revenue payments must be on e-Citizen so that treasury can follow on the revenues been collected by government. They have one week to comply. Otherwise, they know what to do, they can make use of the door, it’s as simple as that,” Ruto noted.
He warned State agencies that are on the e-Citizen platform yet still use alternative means of payment to pocket funds. “We still have State agencies that are on the platform but once in a while, they retreat to use alternative means of payment including games with some banks,” he warned.

Ruto emphasised that he would enforce his promise of enhancing operations in government that are transparent and credible. “When I campaigned, I made a fundamental statement, I said in my administration there would be no money to steal and part of that journey is through digitisation. Through this, we connect service delivery to revenue collection,” he asserted.
