Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has confirmed that President William Ruto will address the nation tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2024.

The President will deliver his State of the Nation address at the Lower House in the afternoon. According to the Speaker, Members of Parliament (MPs) are required to plan and arrange their arrival as per the guidelines shared by the administrative head of the National Assembly.

“You should, as members, be advised by the Office of the Clerk on the arrangements that have been put in place. There will be a little inconvenience,” he said.

“Be here punctually; it will be a joint sitting, and some seats on my left in the front row will be reserved for the leadership of the Senate.”

The State of the Nation address is a communication from the President to Parliament in which the chief executive reports on Kenya’s current condition and provides policy proposals for the upcoming legislative year.

This address is mandated by the Constitution (Article 132, Section 1, Clause b), which requires the President to “address a special sitting of Parliament once every year” and report on measures taken and progress made in realizing the national values and principles of good governance, such as integrity, transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.

“I need not emphasize: you will hear His Excellency in absolute silence, and thereafter, you will have an opportunity from Monday afternoon to debate His Excellency’s address to the House,” Speaker Wetangula stated.

There will be no other business in the House except the address.
