President William Ruto has disputed claims that his ruling party has formed a coalition government with the country’s opposition party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

While addressing a political gathering in Nyamira County on Monday, he clarified that the Kenya Kwanza administration had only agreed to work with ODM to push the country forward for the benefit of Kenyans.

“We have not agreed with ODM to form a coalition. We have agreed that we will work together on tasks that will benefit all Kenyans. So, do not worry. My important job is ensuring we unite Kenya and make it one,” said President Ruto.

His remarks came after he nominated five key allies of opposition leader Raila Odinga of ODM to join his cabinet, who have since taken the oath of office to serve in their respective positions.

“I want to thank all those who have agreed that we work together to push the country forward,” the President said:-

The five are former Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho appointed to be the Cabinet Secretary (CS) For Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Wycliffe Oparanya to be the CS for Cooperatives and MSME Development, John Mbadi for National Treasury, Opiyo Wandayi to be the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Energy and Petroleum, and Beatrice Askul as the CS of the Ministry of East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development.

Joho, Oparanya, Mbadi, and Wandayi, who held various high-ranking positions in ODM, were approved by the National Assembly and sworn into office on Thursday, August 8.

Following that, many Kenyans have been thinking that President Ruto has formed a coalition government with ODM, an idea he has clarified;

On his part, ODM leader Raila Odinga remarked that they are only helping the government address various challenges like the cost of living that had caused youths to riot across the country.
