Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), assisted by agents at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), are currently under operation to arrest an unknown smuggler after seizing 1.15 kilos of methamphetamine within the airport premises on Monday.
The DCI said that the drug mule is accused of trying to smuggle into Kenya through JKIA meth having a street value of Ksh9.2 million which had been concealed in one of the FedEx Express warehouses.
“The seizure of the Ksh9.2 million drug in street estimates followed a tip-off to Anti-Narcotics detectives based at JKIA yesterday, prompting a search within the warehouse at the Mitchell Cott Shed,” detectives said.
Almost the entire day, they conducted additional searches within the airport and then took the drugs with them as investigations continued.
“Investigation is ongoing to identify the trafficker and intended destination,” the detectives stated.
If found, the suspect will face charges of conspiracy to import controlled substances, a crime that carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of not less than one million shillings.
