An X post with an image purporting to be of Kasarani Stadium is false.
The image was shared on September 27, 2023, by a person using the handle @Kotsocha_ke, who claimed the image was a view of Kasarani Stadium at night.
“This is the night vision of Kasarani stadium ,,,the smallest stadium in Kenya,” the user captioned the image.
Business Today investigated the claim and found it to be false.
According to a reverse image search on Google, the image is of Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Italy.
The image was shared online moments after news emerged that East Africa’s Pamoja Bid by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania had won the rights to host the 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
Kasarani Stadium is currently the largest Stadium in Kenya, with a sitting capacity of 60,000, and also contains VIP lounges and hospitality suites.
The original image was posted here on X, showing the stadium bearing the words Napoli. Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is Napoli’s home stadium. Napoli is an Italian professional football club based in the city of Naples that plays in Serie A, the top flight of Italian football.
The image with the banner written “Kasarani” is edited and is, therefore, false.
