Citizen TV presenter Francis Gachuri has been appointed as the new Head of Communication in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
He is the Political Editor at Royal Media Services (RMS), and also features on News Gang. Gachuri’s time at Citizen has seen him cover major political events including the 2022 election cycle.
In his new role, he will play a key role in shaping the government’s communication on its most important programs, including security operations overseen by the Interior Ministry – which is led by Kithure Kindiki as Cabinet Secretary.
Gachuri was promoted to the position of Political Editor at Citizen TV in 2018, putting him in charge of the station’s political coverage for both English and Kiswahili broadcasts.
“Gachuri is an experienced journalist who has covered key political events in the country and beyond and I am confident that he will discharge his duties with distinction,” then RMS Editorial Director Joe Ageyo stated at the time.
His appointment at the Interior ministry comes at a time when the Kindiki-led ministry has been under pressure from the public over continued insecurity in part of the country, particularly the North Rift.

Emerging details of the extent of banditry and illegal livestock trade, for instance, have sparked widespread uproar with citizens and leaders alike demanding action.
Speaking last week, President William Ruto announced that the government would avail Ksh20 billion to support security agencies’ response to banditry, even as he maintained that they would not allow illegal guns.
“We will secure the country. Currently, a major operation is ongoing in North Rift because of the bandits’ menace. No one will be allowed to walk around with a gun while herding. Let everyone use a stick; guns are for the police,” the President stated.
“The Ksh20 billion will help our officers with enough equipment to fight criminals, terrorists and other insecurity challenges,” he noted.
