Le Grenier à Pain, a leading French bakery chain with over 30 branches across the globe has officially launched in the Nairobi, its first outlet in Africa.
Le Grenier à Pain Kenya, which is operating under local firm Boulangerie & Company Ltd, has invested over Ksh 120 million and created over 30 jobs in the last two years.

Le Grenier à Pain is situated at 9 Riverside Building, Nairobi, where it offers a wide variety of breads, patisseries, savouries, special occasion cakes for birthdays and weddings as well as authentic French pastries.
“This is a significant milestone in the growth and development of Le Grenier à Pain brand globally,” said Le Grenier à Pain, Managing Director Yan Welffens. “Nairobi, a cosmopolitan capital, offers the right environment for the inaugural launch in the continent as we map out other key cities in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

He said Africa is a key market globally and Kenya provides a platform to not only develop the French bakery facility but also set up a pastry school for the region. “Our plan is to have a footprint in various African capital cities where we see a potential to grow our brand,” said Mr Welffens.
According to the French Ambassador to Kenya, Antoine Sivan, “Enjoying some authentic French baked products in this part of East Africa will be an amazing experience as we are glad to show this part of our culture as nothing says French like an authentic baguette.”

The Le Grenier à Pain production team is 100% Kenyan, and the chefs have been trained in France at the franchise head office.
Le Grenier à Pain was created by Michael Galloyer in 1998 and has won numerous awards, most recent being the 2010 and 2015: 1st prize for the best traditional baguette in Paris. Other branches around the globe are located in Tokyo, Paris, Beirut, Chongqing and Saint-Petersburg among others.
