Former Education CS George Magoha has joined Maseno University as Professor of Surgery at its School of Medicine, director of public relations Dr Owen McOnyango has confirmed.
Prof Magoha previously served as the University of Nairobi vice-chancellor, before being appointed the chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council.
His most remarkable achievement at the UoN was instituting discipline among the academic staff, non-teaching staff and the students.
As the Chairman of KNEC, he was tasked with reforming the council to arrest the widespread academic dishonesty and corruption in the administration of national examinations.
On March 1, 2019, he was nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Education in the Kenyan Cabinet and was sworn in on March 26, 2019, replacing Amina Mohamed, who was transferred to the Sports docket.
At the time of his appointment, Prof Magoha came out with one of the longest CVs in the Kenyan academic field, with over 91 pages.
In Magoha’s CV, a personal statement in which he, among others, describes himself as a top grade Professor of Urological and Transplant Surgery since 2000 at the University of Nairobi, who trained in Nigeria, Ghana, Ireland and United Kingdom, takes 2 and 3/4 pages.
