Veteran News Anchor Catherine Kasavuli Díes After Long Battle With Cáncer

Catherine Kasavuli, the veteran journalist and news anchor, has díed. Ms Kasavuli, who dominated the TV screen in Kenya for years working for KTN, lost the battle against cáncer last evening, according to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Managing Director Samuel Maina.

“We lost Catherine Kasavuli last night,” Mr Maina said in a Media Stakeholders Whatsapp group. “It is related to the cáncer ailment that she’s been bravely fíghting in the recent past.”

In November, colleagues and friends donated blòod for urgent transfusion while she was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital with cervical cáncer.

Cervical cáncer affects the neck of the womb and it characterized by the growth of abnormal cells in the lining of the cervix. Worldwide, this dísease ranks as the fourth most frequently diagnosed cáncer and the fourth leading cause of cáncer déath in women.

Colleagues in media are sending condolence messages and praising her as a veteran journalist who has left a mark in the industry.

“May Kasavuli RIP,” said former KTN presenter Alex Chamwada. “Her contribution to broadcasting will live on.”

KBC MD Samuel Maina says: “Very sad news indeed. We pray and stand with her family and loved ones. May Catherine Rest In Eternal Peace.”

Former Standard newspaper editor, David Ohito, says: “My deepest condolences to the family and colleagues who worked with icon Catherine Kasavuli.”

Ms Kasavuli has had a big heart, helping many people seeking medical treatment. She would use her social media platforms to mobilise Kenyans to raise funds for patients who are seeking urgent treatment. The most recent case was of a baby who was born with a congenital abnormality.

Since the 1980s, Ms Kasavuli, often known as the TV queen, has played a significant role in Kenyan media. Before retiring in 2015, she was one of the first anchors to host a live television program for a privately held TV station in the 1990s.

Ms Kasavuli returned to KBC in 2020, where she hosted the Legend Edition show every weekend.
