See All The Roads Closed for Supreme Court Ruling in Nairobi

Sections of several major roads in Nairobi will be closed on Monday, September 5 as the Supreme Court issues its ruling on the Presidential Petition. The move is meant to ensure calm is maintained as Kenyans await the highly-anticipated ruling by the Chief Justice Maartha Koome-led court.

Nairobi Area traffic police boss Vitalis Otieno on Sunday, September 4 advised motorists to plan for the road closures accordingly to avoid disruptions. On its official social media channels, the Judiciary stated on Monday, September 5 that it would communicate the exact time the ruling would be issued once the same had been indicated by the Supreme Court.

Kenyans were advised by police to avoid large public gatherings and to follow the proceedings from their homes.

“The road shall be closed after we get a directive from the Supreme Court which will be in two hours before the time given out by the supreme court,” Otieno stated.

The seven-judge bench has been hearing a petition by Azimio candidate Raila Odinga and his running-mate Martha Karua to have the results of the August polls and declaration of William Ruto as President-Elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) nullified.

The closed roads are;

Ngong’ Road

Ngong’ Road will be closed at the junction of Ngong Road 1st Avenue (opposite NHIF).

Cathedral Road/Kenyatta Avenue

Motorists will be unable to access CBD through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral road. They were advised to use Haile Selassie Avenue.

Cathedral Road/ Milimani Ngong’ Road

Cathedral Road/Haile Selassie Avenue junction will be closed. Motorists were advised to take the alternative Haile Selassie/Ngong road route.
