This tweet with an image purporting to show officers blocking the road to Deputy President William Ruto’s home is false.

The image surfaced online a day after Kenyans voted on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, with Twitter user Jim Spire Sentogo alleging that “Ruto had put under preventive arrest”.

According to a reverse image search on Google, the image dates back to May 2016 when Uganda’s opposition leader Kizza Besigye was put under house arrest.

Besigye, the leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party was placed under house arrest after announcing a ‘defiance campaign’ against the government a day before Uganda’s general elections in 2016. The photo is of a police blockade outside Besigye’s home in Kasangati, Uganda.

On Sunday, August 14, 2022, Ruto held a church service at his Karen residence, alongside his running mate Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders allied to his Kenya kwanza Alliance.

The image purporting to show a police blockade outside Ruto’s home is false.
