National carrier Kenya Airways is set to begin daily flights to India after the nation eased travel restrictions imposed due to Covid-19.

KQ had reduced flights to India from Kenya to just three a week. The arrangement also limited the number of passengers to 400 a week.

The daily flights will come as a boost to Kenya Airways which has been posting steady losses in recent years, and came under further pressure from the impact of Covid-19 on the global aviation industry.

“We are excited and ready for take-off to Mumbai with daily flights from March 28, 2022, and ten weekly flights from April, 17,” the airline confirmed  in a notice shared with customers.

India receives thousands of Kenyan travelers every year. It has established itself as a medical tourism destination for many seeking specialized healthcare for themselves and their loved ones.

Cancer treatment, in particular, has led many Kenyans to travel to India.

Earlier in March, KQ had announced a number of changes to its route network. They are;

  1. Frequency increase for London route throughout Winter from planned 5 times weekly to daily marking the fastest recovery to pre-Covid schedule.
  2. Operation day change for Juba-Khartoum route to cater for Sudan Weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) by operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays effective 20th Feb 2022.
  3. Reduction of frequencies on Nairobi-Kisumu over low season from 26 times to 17 times weekly from 15th Feb 2022.
  4. Postponement of Milan and Rome launch previously planned for 8th June 2022. The postponement is in light of reduced passenger demand as a result of slower than expected recovery from COVID-19. KQ will continue to serve Italy through its European destinations: London, Paris, and Amsterdam connecting to our SkyTeam Partner Airlines, ITA (Italia Trasporto Aereo) and Air France-KLM.
  5. Suspension of Yaoundé, Cameroon destination by 31st May 2022.
