Pesapal, a payment solutions provider for businesses and personal products, has been named the most innovative payment solutions provider in Kenya.

The company was named the winner of the 2021 Visa Innovator award for its innovativeness in providing digital payment solutions for consumers and merchants in Kenya and across East Africa.

The annual Innovator Award acknowledges fintechs working alongside banks to drive new payment experiences using new payment flow like Visa Direct, tokenisation, and digital wallet.

Commenting on the recognition, Pesapal’s Brand Manager, Janette Ronoh said consumers have grown to prefer digital payment methods with as few steps as possible.

“We have to innovate and respond to the market needs by introducing products that offer consumers a quicker and more seamless experience, regardless of whether they’re paying online or at a physical storefront. We are honoured to receive the Visa Innovator Award. This recognition reflects the strength of our merchant payment solutions in meeting the current and emerging needs of the customers,” said Ms Ronoh.

“More than ever, the global society relies on innovation in payments to facilitate commerce. And the products and solutions used by merchants to accept and protect payments need to be highly adaptable and responsive to emerging trends, which is what we strive to deliver across all verticals and geographies that we serve.”

The fintech industry is rapidly evolving, with innovative payment solutions revolutionising the payments landscape for consumers and businesses alike. Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 in 2020, the payment market is undergoing a period of immense change, with traditional payment options heavily complimented by digital solutions offering convenience and simplicity for consumers and merchants.

“At Visa, innovation is at the foundation of every customer relationship. The Visa Innovation Award was introduced to award Visa powered players and stakeholders within the payments space for exemplary performance. We congratulate this year’s winners on their great results, and we are proud of the long-lasting relationships we have with each of them,” Visa Country Manager Ms Eva Ngigi said.

The Visa Innovator Award winners were selected by a panel of judges comprising prominent industry leaders and experts in payments, with stakeholders drawn from commercial banks, fintech, payment service providers, and merchants.
