The YouTube videos Kenyans can’t stop watching in 2018

In February 2005, three former PayPal employees invented a way to digitally store videos and upload them onto a free website where anyone can see them.

YouTube has since grown to be almost all things; the center for entertainment, funny videos, sports highlights, religious sermons, educational and informative as well as the occasional floss around.

Alternatively, buzzwords like content creator, streaming and vlogging became vogue.

This impact on popular culture is why on December 7, the video-sharing website launched YouTube Rewind to celebrate videos, moments and creators who represent the best of 2018.

For Kenyans, the top ten list of non-music videos is topped by comedy sketch ‘Who Died?’ by Africa’s most watched YouTuber Mark Angel Comedy.

Second on the list which apart from comedy clips also features entries from news and politics, as well as sports, was a clip from a wedding in which a bride and her bridesmaids dance down the aisle.  The video is aptly named, ‘Best Wedding Dance Ever.’

Comedian Njugush was third with his hilarious video depicting the dialogue between surprisingly calm but aloof boda boda driver and a frustrated customer who ends up paying Ksh500 for a 27 second ride.

The moment that was captured of controversial politician Miguna Miguna saying “I’m not boarding” while vigorously refusing to get on a plane deporting him to Canada via Dubai comes in fourth place.

In fifth place was a clip of Kanze Dena in an emotional farewell from Citizen TV to take up her new position as State House Spokesperson.

Sixth position was an exciting six goal thriller of a football match, as Portugal and Spain drew 3-3 on the second day of the football festival that was the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Former US President Barack Obama dancing in Kogelo with his grandmother, Sarah, and half-sister, Auma took the seventh position.

In eighth was Comedy vlogger Henry Desagu with a video on ‘Usicheze na Conductor wa Mat za Mwihoko, while Comedian MCA Tricky was in ninth spot with a parody of the rechargeable life size doll, Samantha.
